Got a bit of a jolt this morning. Moo Cat — the tuxedo cat — has been missing for the last couple of days. Which isn’t unusual, but. When I was walking down the trail I spotted this big tuft of black-and-white fur lying on the ground. My first thought was: “Oh no!!”
But then I spotted the teeth and the skull right above it. Almost certainly the snout of a skunk. And the other night there was a heavy skunk smell in that part of the woods. Most likely caused by a skunk trying — and failing — to ward off a predator.
It can be a tough life for the critters living in the woods. With danger always lurking about somewhere. . . One of my favorite phrases that I made up and probably is true: “Nature is basically playful. But she can play rough.”
we get thpse around here once in a while lol
