Happy National Tabby Day! Here’s a bit of background to how they got the name tabby, thanks to @thecatdaddyHere are a couple of quick facts about Tabbies:
Did you know the name “Tabby” is derived from silk of the “Attabiy” district in Baghdad, which then became “atabis” in 14th Century Middle French, which THEN shortened to “tabis” to the term we know today as “tabby.” This is because tabbies are soft as silk.
And another fun fact! Tabby is not actually a breed of cat, but a coat pattern. That’s right, somewhere under the color of your solid black cat…stripes! Next time, when admiring your cat’s beautiful fur, know that the tabby gene is in there, making it even easier to celebrate this day!
