Territorial pissing

Part of the daily ritual. After eating her breakfast, Fatty crosses the “bridge” from one side of the creek to the other.

Feral cats are extremely territorial. The left side of the creek is Mini Scaredy’s territory. And the right side of the creek is Fatty’s territory. But the general area around the creek on both sides is considered a neutral territory where everyone can hang out in peace.

I think it might be a universal instinct embodied in a lot of mammals (not to get too National Geographics Wildlife Special here). It’s like they acknowledge: “OK. We ALL need water. So the creek is like a free zone where we can temporarily put aside our differences and not fight and get along.”
